Rust Console Zones: Safe Zones, Arenas and No-Build Areas

Last updated · Verified against Helios 2026.8

A zone is a piece of your map with its own rules. Helios lets you draw one from Discord in about two minutes — stand where you want it, capture your position, pick what is allowed inside, done. No server files, no plugins.

Quick answer

To create a zone in Rust Console, run /zone server:"<SERVER>" in Discord and click Add. Stand where the zone should be, click Position to capture your coordinates, name it, pick Sphere or Box and a size, then toggle the rules you want — PvP, PvE, building, building damage, radiation, a visible outline, and enter/leave messages. Click Create Zone and it is live. Zones are free on the Helios free tier.

What server owners actually build with zones

Every zone below is the same panel with different toggles. These are the six that come up most often.

What you wantHow you set it up
A safe trading area
Somewhere players can meet without being shot
Allow PvP off, Allow Building off, Building Dmg off, Show Area on, enter message explaining the rules
A PvP arena on a PvE server
One place fighting is allowed
Allow PvP on, visible outline in a bright colour, enter message warning players
A no-build ring around a monument
Stop players walling off Launch Site
Allow Building off, leave every other rule alone
A newbie / spawn protection area
Give fresh spawns a chance
Allow PvP off, Allow Building off, enter and leave messages
A radiation deterrent
Push players out of an area without a wall
Radiation above 0, Show Area on so it is not a surprise
A temporary event ground
An arena for one night only
Whatever the event needs, then Remove the zone afterwards

The zone panel

/zone opens a panel in Discord listing every zone on the selected server, with Add, Edit, Remove, List and Manage All.

The Helios /zone panel in Discord showing existing zones for a server with Add, Edit, Remove, List and Manage All buttons
The /zone panel. Every zone on the server, and the controls to change them.
The Helios Add Zone panel in Discord showing position, name, shape, size, PvP, PvE, radiation, building and message options
The Add Zone draft. Position, shape, size and every rule on one screen before you commit.

Set up your first zone

  1. Run /zone server:"US Main" and click Add.
  2. Stand where the zone should be in game and click Position to capture it — or type coordinates if you already know them.
  3. Name the zone and choose Sphere or Box, its rotation, and its size.
  4. Toggle the rules you want.
  5. Click Create Zone.
  6. Walk the boundary in game and confirm the size and messages are what you expected.

Permissions: /zone is an admin command — it needs Manage Server in Discord. Players cannot create these zones themselves.

Every rule you can set per zone

RuleWhat it controls
Allow PvPPlayer vs player damage inside the zone
Allow PvENPC damage inside the zone
RadiationRadiation level inside the zone. 0 for none
Building DmgWhether buildings can take damage
Allow BuildingWhether players can build inside the zone
Show AreaDraw the zone outline in game
ColorThe colour of that outline
Chat MsgAnnounce in chat when players enter or leave
Enter / Leave MessageThe exact wording players see at the boundary

Change every zone at once

Manage All on the /zone panel bulk-edits every non-ORP custom zone in one action: Show Area, Color, Show Chat Message, Allow PvP, Allow PvE and Radiation. Changes apply immediately.

This is how you flip a whole server to PvP for an event evening and put it back afterwards, without opening every zone one at a time. The online dashboard has the same control as a Manage All Zones card.

Zones vs offline raid protection

Two different systems that both create zones. Owners mix them up constantly, so here is the split.

Custom zones (/zone)

  • Created by staff, placed anywhere on the map
  • Apply to everyone who walks in
  • Permanent until you remove them
  • Free
  • For safe areas, arenas, no-build rings, events

ORP zones (/orp)

  • Created by players, around their own base
  • Protect that base while its owners are offline
  • Appear and expire on timers you configure
  • Premium
  • For stopping offline raids

Frequently asked questions

Are zones free?
Yes. The /zone panel is on the free tier — there is no premium requirement for custom zones.
How do I make a safe zone in Rust Console?
Create a zone with Allow PvP off and Allow Building off, leave Show Area on so players can see where it ends, and add an enter message explaining the rules.
Can I run a PvP arena on a PvE server?
Yes. Create a zone with Allow PvP on and a visible outline. Everywhere outside it keeps your server’s normal rules.
Do zones survive a wipe?
The zone records do, but positions are tied to the map. After a map wipe the terrain underneath has changed, so re-check and re-place zones every wipe.
Do I need to edit server files?
No. Helios connects over WebRCON and creates zones through the /zone panel in Discord. Nothing is installed on the server itself.
Sphere or Box?
Sphere suits round areas like a monument or a trading post. Box, with rotation, fits rectangular ones — a road, a bridge, an arena floor.
How many zones can I create?
There is no fixed limit in the panel. Practically, every zone is one more rule your players have to remember, so a handful of well-explained zones beats twenty they trip over.
Are ORP zones the same thing?
No. Offline raid protection zones are a separate premium system that players create around their own bases — see the ORP page.
